Parent/Guardians of LaVenture students,

We are rapidly approaching the season of state testing. This is our opportunity for students to demonstrate the concepts they have learned this year. We would like to share some important information with you so that you aware of the format, schedule, and strategies to support your student at home.

The Measurement for Student Progress (MSP), is a content test the state creates to assess students on their progress towards their grade level standards. The MSP has replaced the WASL that took place a few years ago. Families should receive the results during August. The MSP is given on the computer during middle school with the exception of writing which will be continue to be administered with paper and pencil. The Writing MSP will take two days and the  Reading, Math, and Science MSP will each take one day. Each student is scheduled for a day to take the Reading, Math, Writing (7th graders), and Science (8th graders). Once a student begins the test they may not leave it and come back to it but it can be rescheduled for another day due to illness or appointment. If you know of a scheduled absence for your child during their test day due to a trip or Dr. apt. Please call the school or send a note as soon as possible, so that we may reschedule your child .

The Measurement of Academic Progress, MAP, is designed to monitor students’ progress.  All students in Mount Vernon from grades 3-8 take the test three times a year in both reading and math. The scores are released as soon as the student finishes. The data from this test is used to gauge student progress over time and for placement decisions both for intervention and accelerated classes.

The End of Course exam, EOC, is administered at the end of Algebra and Geometry. Only the students enrolled in those courses will take this exam. It will be administered during their math class from May 31-June 7. If a student does not pass the EOC they may be required to repeat the course at high school. Families will receive the results during August.

Strategies for Families to help their student do their best.
Enure your child eats a good breakfast. We open our doors at 7 am for school breakfast.
Help your child get a good night of sleep, try to sleep at least 9 hours. Limit caffeine near bedtime.
Talk with your child about how they feel before and after the test.

Thank you so much for all that you do to support your student.

Please contact Erin Duez with any questions or concerns at (360)428-6116.
